Flight

You may train the eagle
To stoop to the fist,
Or you may inveigle
The phoenix to the east,
You can train the lioness
To move over her prey,
BUT you can never stop
Those, with words who play!

We have had enough banal
Enough we listened to somber,
To uproot misbelieves: the youth awakens-
Hostility that should have long been shaken.
No matter how, no matter what-
Never seal the zeal until soul departs.
None can dare the enthusiasts to hoop
The U:th will never ever droop.

And,
This isn’t all that we aim
We have goals to tame.
The wind being chased
It’s either now or never.
With all the passion. U:th comes
Lest the situations favor.

Come what may,
We will make OUR way.
Because, Still:
A lot is to be said, A lot is unheard…….

Innovations that might work!

What kind of technology will work? I am not a Harvard graduate to tell you things which you can mark as words on stone. But I take pride in what ever I have learnt and observed. And after spending 20 years in this world in which first few were only to explore my immediate world, I can say that most of the things are done for me, or to say people like me, and if I analyze them in a systematic manner, then I can certainly come on some solid conclusions. After telling you that what I going to write further is not totally out of sync with the current happenings, and that you an quote me anywhere you feel like as I have already spent some 15+ observant years on this planet.

But our problem is not, why I am writing this article, or why you are reading it, where of course both of them are nice things, but what kind of technology will work? Before reading any further I would love if you spend a moment and search for answer yourself, answer is there in you. Now I suppose that you have spent your moment, if not then do it now…now why did I said that answer is in you, cause like me you have also spent some mighty observant years on this planet.

I have a set of rule when I think about anything new, which I have faith which will work on any new technology, or for that any new thing which you are trying, and no matter how much specific you are. The first rule is, it should be understandable by my Mom, who is a very normal person, more human than me…geeks are geeks, they are not humans. Computers were good from very first time when they come, they were better than what we already had, but did not had high acceptance. For a very simple reason that ‘My Mom’ can not understand how it worked. An underlying rule, or to say a guideline for your new object to suffice this rule-1, is, is it part of a gradual leap, or a quantum leap. By gradual leap, I am not trying to say that it should not be path breaking, and by quantum leap, I do not mean that it should not be an out of world thing, which it can be. No matter how path breaking you product, it should not be a thing which no body can recognize with. Let’s say, you want to make chair, people have a normal visualization about a chair, and someday you come up with a magnetically levitated chair, without anything to connect with the sitting portion to the base. A technological breakthrough indeed, a marvelous piece of science, and a must for geek, but when it comes to ‘My Mom’ she wont buy it, for fears, though unknown, though you have put stickers shouting that your product is extremely safe and much more safer than a conventional chairs, more comfortable. But she will prefer a conventional chair. Was it a quantum leap, in a sense, yes. By gradual leap, I mean to say that there must be a chair somewhere which will help to change the mindset of people about the chair. I don’t know what it would be, but yes that would help a magnetic levitated chair a great deal to achieve success. One can never be success about what makes the ingredients of success, but there is always a scope of speculations. There are lots of hidden risks in quantum leap. History is full of examples telling how products which were ahead of their time failed miserably. Yes, right time matters. So to make, ‘My Mom’ buy your product, you need to be innovative, and she should be able to recognize with your product. Hey, big companies are not crazy investing in pre launch survey and research, it means a lot to them to know about, ‘My Mom’.

Now comes the second ingredient of potion of success, alchemists from centuries are trying to search and define all of them. Second rule, which you should stick in come what may. Are you planning to make a product which can do every thing, by every thing I meant every thing, cause there can only be one Swiss knife, every product can not be Swiss Knife. So don’t try to make a Swiss knife. People still like to have two things doing to different things at different place. ‘Control it all’ remotes are very old phenomenon, but they were never seen by ‘My Mom’, and for that matter in my 20 years I have only seen them twice or thrice in action.  When we go on making new things or chalking out new things we tend to get excited and go over board and chalk too many things which are nothing but crap. But since it was our hands which were chalking we don’t find that they are bad. I know this from self experience, we tend to make Swiss Knife and think that we would be successful as we have increased buyer’s spectrum. But it goes other way, we have confused our customers. If you have followed till here then I would once again ask you to think… yes think…how many multi purpose products do you have in your home… give it a thought, and you have the answer.

There can be ‘n’ more number of ingredients of success and I can write about them for…sorry I am not even going to think about it. To sum it up, I will post more and more without the inhibition that whether you are buying or not what I am trying to tell you. I feel that there is larger need of interaction, larger need of putting your thoughts so that lots of intelligent conversations can come up in comments section. This post was certainly more concentrates on commercial success, and I can tell you that there is nothing which is not commercial not even so called non commercial art movies.

Kahin tum to kahin hum bikte hain.’

Leadership Counts.

Life always give you chance, chances for both the things, to duck away from the challenge and to face it and then win over it. If you know about the 80-20 formula which states that for consumption of any thing the 20% of the user will consume the 80% of resources and the 80% will use just the 20%. Same goes for the opportunities. Nearly 80% will duck away when a challenge will come up, and only 20% will get their act right to face it. One of the important aspect of success in this modern era is leadership. Why leadership? Answer is more simple then having this quality, an answer which we have been studying since time immemorial, but its an answer which had a different question attached to it, the question was; What kind of animal is human? And then answer goes as; Man is a social animal. Which means that man can not to most of the things alone and need people to help him. But its not that easy, to get people help you, and here is where the leadership comes in. You can go to any book shop and get n number of books on leadership, and you can swallow them endlessly. But I can tell you that none of leaders you see read them(barring few books which are just eternal classics on leadership). As I have mentioned the 80:20 relationship already, you can twist you nerves to come on conclusion that what we expect, ant what you should expect is to come in that 20% to tame those 80%. I will even go to the limit of saying that these are are the animals of burned and you have to use them. This statement should not taken in bad spirit, and neither it should be taken as an over spin from my side, as I am also in a path to learn to get an entry in that 20%, and thus we are on same boat. And when we are in same boat the best thing which we can do is to share our experiences, and make this journey more social. One thing which I have learned the hard way round, that leadership requires blood, just like a magnificent sword, you can give it during the process or it will take it at the end when you wait for fruits, and it hurts badly in the later case.

Since I think that the way presentations are put on RGPV’s main site is laughable in this web2.0 age thus I am putting them in more shareable and watchable way. I had put another slide show by our beloved VC, Dr. PB Sharma here, and this time its about the leadership and if you are counting my words, then watch it carefully and imbibe whatever it wants to convey, for one and only one very simple reason, it by a leader.

And as always, feel free to comment o whatever you feel like, and if you want to push through a communication then feel free to mail us at friday.colours(at)gmail(dot)com

Admission in UIT-RGPV.

If it is to be considered then this post is late as MP-PET results are already out, and people have already started making choices. We had two queries on the about page about the admission prospects form would-be students of engineering.

@Kushi : Kushi I am really pleased that you are considering our college to get admission in, and below I am going to write why one should consider UIT-RGPV.

@Shailendra Singh: Before you go for counseling ask yourself which is the subject you love most, is it computers where you feel you should sit in front of, or is it big, mighty machines with whom you want to play. Both have their charm, but at the end of the day its your love. But if you ask me, on whether one should prefer Government college over private college the n I would say prefer Government college, for one very simple reason, all what it seems from the glorified version and self praise on paper by few private college is not all that true, where as every statement coming out from a government college has to pass through large amount scrutiny. You might know that how many students got through campus selection in a private college but wont know that UIT-RGPV gets more campus than any other college in Bhopal, cause few things do not reach paper, as it is a government college. But neither I would say that ours is a perfect college, there is lot that we can expect, and I would thus invite you to become the part of UIT-RGPV family, so that we can together make it the best.

Why one should consider UIT-RGPv, or in other words UIT-RGTU/ GEC Bhopal?

A government college

Larger number of grants.

Larger number of research projects.

Located in Capital, which gets you better coaching facilities, and  more opportunities than any other city in Madhya Pradesh, yes even better than Indore…sorry blokes…( Indore is still the business capital of MP) BHEL, OPTEL are few to name which are few highly placed international companies.

No hidden fees.

Comparatively lower fees, than any other private college.

And to mention out of box, a true college like atmosphere, where other colleges are nothing more than school of engineering.

Kushi, you asked what are the other things which are going on, and the other events which generally takes place…we recently finished with our annual festival, Anunaad, and in coming future we are going to come up with Electrical department tech fest, and that might precede an over all tech fest. And on research front there is one biggie going on for biodesel production, and there is already a biodiesel manufacturing plant established in college campus( how many campus can boast of that) and there are few more to count…which will take all the fingers of your family. So there is lot of things going on, but we are waiting for new students which will bring a new range of thoughts with them…so Kushi who knows that you might just be Curie of UIT-RGPV(without cancer).

We are sorry…

One thing I have learned from various incidents of life, is that one have to be regular in to achieve whatever one has set out to achieve. And this the reason I wont shy away from any self loathing. Last post was on 31st of May and today it is 2nd August, which signifies two months gap. This will not go and should not go, and one thing which I can promise is that this will not ever happen in future. We are set out to achieve few brilliant things, there are wonderful plans in making and if we are not going to update you all then this blog is of no use.

Only thing beside asking for forgiveness zillion of times, I would say, keep yourself hooked to this site because there is lot to come in near future as we are through with our exams and are up with some brilliant plans. We at UIT-RGPV wants education and empowerment at everybody’s arm length. I have specifically used the phrase arms lenght where I could have used in arms for the reason that I believe a student should never be spoon fed. And this goes with us too…with every one.

Vote for Taj.

This is a very old campaign, which came to nation wide prominence just now. Voting for Taj to bring it in top seven wonders of the world, Or to say New 7 Wonders of world.
Should we vote, or not…
Oh yes we should without any doubt vote.
But who are they, to decide and conduct a vote for deciding the seven wonders of the modern world. And how did they zeroed on the listed candidates. Is it necessary to vote for Taj. I am in no way against the voting, one should vote and I have done my bit by doing it online. You can do it so by visiting here.
What are the advantages to have Taj in the list of seven wonders of the world?
Aha…Nothing but great publicity, and money…I dont know about it.

How does it all started.

There is a foundation, “The New7Wonder Foundation, which is the body behind the New7Wonders campaign. They aim for documenting, maintaining, restoring and reconstructing world heritage. They want to save beautiful monuments all over the globe. They are very nice people 😉
This foundation was created in 2001 by a Swiss adventurer Bernard Weber, with so called mission to protect humankind’s heritage across the globe. To mention only 50% of all the revenue generated from the campaign will be used for restoring heritage including Bamiyan Buddha, which they will be recreating as it can not be restores thanks to Taliban. 50% isnt it great…if you feel so, then read further.
No way. its not great, lets figure out there revenue sources

  • Online advertising space on their website
  • Tour Packages
  • Lots of franchise product.
  • Your money which you spend on pinging each SMS will trickle down to them.
  • All the special numbered phone calls you will make.
  • 2$, if you spend to get a PDF certificate, to mention you voted, yes they wont send it in paper, come-on you know it will the be to costly affair.
  • The tickets you will buy to visit Lisbon, to watch the mega event on 07.07.07
  • Money generated from telecasting rights, that too internationally of the event on 07.07.07

This is what I found, there would be more. All this and more on the name of selecting 7 wonders among 77(initial list). When all are so different from each other, that none can be compared to each other. And yes as far as it goes to me, there are few unworthy candidates in the list of 21.

  • Statue of Liberty
  • Sydney Opera House
  • Eiffel Tower

Though all of them are enthralling including these three, but they can not be included in the league of wonders.
Number of foreign tourist who visit India is less when compared to number of tourist who visit Eiffel Tower. There is lot to be done when it comes to tourism opportunity in India. Taj Mahal is one of the most beautiful wonders and can find its place in any list. Something we all should admire beside the beauty of all these monuments is the technical brain behind all this helluva. All money and not much work to do, they have assigned some money to an advertising firm which is doing its job wonderfully and they are getting all sorts of money form all over the globe, at least from 21 nations which have their monuments in the list, but since in this global era this world is nothing more than a village so vote are coming from all over the globe. You all should vote not just for Taj but even for other monuments which are really beautiful, and more than voting you should try and help other communities which are already there to restore and help out in the restoration process. One more thing which we all can do is to personally advertise brand India globally. There are more than 100 monuments in India which are worth to be kept in the list of seven wonders, and under some laxes all the seven can be from India. So more than bringing Taj in tp seven we should concentrate to achieve holistic improvement in tourism in India.

Journals and more!

If you are in college and want to access any kind of journal, then best place is IEEE, I love it for very crisp content over there. And if your research area is not related to Electrical and related fields (IEEE deals with many), you can visit the latest poster boy, Science Direct. Both of them would enrich you with more than 1/4 of worldwide online journals. But there is one big problem with both of them, as soon as you get out of the server of college you are as a GUEST for both of them and thats no good if your a day scholar or living out side college hostel

.

One thing is for sure, there is much more research going on, and many are now becoming opensource. Here I am providing you with the list of few sites which provide free content, though not journal in true sense, but can prove as a very healthy alternative.

Arxiv

Oh! I love this one, nearly every technical topic is present over there. And for is also of no problem.

arXiv is an e-print service in the fields of physics, mathematics, non-linear science, computer science, and quantitative biology. The contents of arXiv conform to Cornell University academic standards. arXiv is owned, operated and funded by Cornell University, a private not-for-profit educational institution. arXiv is also partially funded by the National Science Foundation.

Project Muse.

This one is a comparatively a new find considering I referred arXiv for the first time when I was in 9/10 th .

But I found Project Muse a very nice resource for non technical material and here you would find many journals, and most of them all readable…without any cap on them. Like arXiv, Project Muse is also under an umbrella of a well known institution, and that is John Hopkins Press in association with The Milton S Eisenhower Library. Good resource if you are looking for some non technical terms.

Research Matters

This one is from the Ivy League boss, Harvard University. You can get nearly every thing related to the latest research which is going behind the doors of Harvard University. Since Harvard in itself deals with many fields therefore it is not limited to just technology but many other fields which is like icing on cake.

I over here in this post am particularly shying from the sites which are very specific in topics. As this will make this post very big and I am once again in time crunch.

Few sites which I can not mention in particular, but would like if you would visit them and unearth more and more material and bring it to our notice. And the site topping this list is none other than…

MIT : I love, yes I just love there home page approach. Besides there design you can check Open Course ware, brilliant material, all course material form MIT including there question papers, and lecture notes. One more name to mention from the stable of MIT is Tangible Media Group, once again a place to check and enjoy, though this place is bit specific in topic, but out of my love for the advance computing, i am putting it here. My only advice when you visit MIT is, keep your eyes wide open.

IIT : How can we miss on them, but I wont shy from the fact that they are far less open than the names I have mentioned. But one should visit their sites regularly.

There is too much out there, more will be knocking your door.

Whats going on!

Currently its exams all over. So there would be a big lull, and yes there are not many members wither to contribute here.

But I will try to post as usual…

Conversation is one of the very important thing, in corporate life or in general life for that matter. If there is any slack in conversation then it can lead to some really big troubles. And in recent years Social networking websites have done a great deal of job in making communication more compact and fast.

Orkut is a cult kind of site in India, much in the same way Facebook or Myspace is in US, or Bebo in UK, now for many of you the other names I mentioned doesnt matter much, but they are still, to mention are quite big social networks. I have had privileged to sit with people who kind of are behind such startups, and the fact is that this space in webosphere is presently very cool, both in terms of innovation and in terms of money. I do know that not all share the same vision about social networking like I do, but I can not forget that I found a friend of mine with whom I had not contact of any kind for last 11 years, isnt it awesome to listen his voice after so many years though it does not have any resemblence with is voice which was like 11 years back.
